We were on our way to Florida and knew we would stop somewhere in South Georgia. We were told by a fellow RV traveler at a gas station to look for the Fair Harbor RV Park in Perry, Georgia. This turned out to be very good advice.
Perry is 135 miles north of the Georgia/Florida state line on I-75. The Fair Harbor RV Park is 2/10 mile west of EXIT 135. Follow the signs and you can’t miss the entrance.
We arrived after dark at about 8:00 p.m. We were greeted with a sign mounted on a large flag pole. The sign said that registration forms were in a holder at the door along with a map of the grounds. The grounds were fairly dark and it took me a lap around to find the correct one-way road to one of the pull through sites in the front section of the park.
Shore power hooks up at each site have 20, 30, or 50 amp receptacles on a lighted post which made the connection a breeze. We did not connect to the water or the sewer as we were leaving first thing the next morning. Note that a quiet park is always important to any traveler. Our overnight stay was very comfortable and quiet.
The next morning when we checked out at the office, I had a delightful talk with Tim McCord, the owner of Fair Harbor RV Park. Tim has owned the park for 15 years and has built it into what it is today. I asked Tim how many sites were available in his park. “One hundred and seventy-five, plus or minus,” he said. “The number varies, as sometimes I combine two sites into one to better serve visitors.”
You can tell that Tim really loves his park and truly cares about making sure his visitors have a great camping experience.
The facilities at this park are immaculately clean. There are two bathhouses, a pavilion, a clubhouse, and of course the store/office area. Free cable TV and WiFi internet are available at every site. There are also laundry facilities for use 24 hours and an easy to use LP station available during office hours.
In addition to the above mentioned features, there is a no license required stocked fishing pond for those who like to wet a line. Hiking and biking trails throughout give the place the feel of a state park.
Fair Harbor RV Park can be a logical overnight stopping point for travelers headed towards South Florida from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, or even Michigan.
Fair Harbor RV Park would also make a great base camp for touring this part of Georgia. Close by are several historic sites including the Andersonville National Historic Site, Robins Air Museum, and the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site.
